Barcelo Maya Colonial has been host to Vacationkids many times. Our staff is very familiar with this entire resort complex. We're ready to answer your questions and help you select the right all inclusive rooms for your family.

The Barcelo Maya Colonial is located in the southern Riviera Maya, about 45 minutes south of the town of Playa Del Carmen. It is an ideal location if you're planning to visit the ruins in Tulum or the ecological parks of Xcaret or Xelha. Figure on a 1 to 1.5 hour direct drive from Cancun airport to get to the Barcelo Maya Colonial depending on time of day and traffic.  We normally recommend clients upgrade to NONSTOP airport transportation to avoid making multiple stops to drop off or pick up guests at other resorts enroute.

The beach at the Barcelo Maya Colonial is beautiful. It stretches for about 1 mile lending itself to morning and evening strolls. This resort sits on a bit of an ocean cove so the shore line is protected providing gentle waves.  There are sandy swimming areas as well as rocky out croppings that act as home for many species of tropical fish and turtles. Few resorts offer both a swimming and a snorkeling beach but this one does.

The Barcelo resorts are renown for it's evening entertainment. Guests will enjoy nightly entertainment with talented performers. We always receive very high feedback from our returning families saying how much they enjoyed the evening performances here.

Another feature that makes this property so popular is the fact that they are family of 5 friendly. This means they will allow 3 children under the age of 12 to share the same room with their parents.

If there are any down sides to this resort or considerations parents need to make it would be....

 - Guest rooms are housed in 3 story buildings. There are NO elevators. We can request rooms on lower floors for families with younger children but please know this is up to the discrepancy of the hotel at check in. We cannot guarantee specific room location.

 - There are over 2,500 within this HUGE resort complex area. Pack your walking shoes and count on doing a lot of walking. There are shuttle trains to help transport guests but you will be doing a good deal of walking. We do not recommend this property to family members with mobility issues.

-Speaking of packing shoes, water shoes are a good idea as there are some rocky areas to this beach.
