Disney Dress upI think we have owned almost every princess costume imaginable at some point in the past five years!  My girls love to dress up and not just in princess costumes, but as pirates, chefs, and animals as well.  While you visit Disney you should expect to see a few little girls and boys dressed up as you walk through the parks!

Your child can wear a costume, just for the fun of it or increase the magic by participating in the Pirates League or visiting the Bippity Boppity Boutique.  The Pirates League is located in Magic Kingdom along with one of the two Bippity Boppity Boutique's.  The other Boutique can be found in Downtown Disney.  There is a fee for these experiences and reservations are recommended, but ultimately they may become some of your child's favorite Disney memories.

Throughout the parks, resorts, and Downtown Disney you will find shops with costumes for purchase.  If you're trying to trim the budget you can purchase the costumes before you arrive in Disney, just remember to pack them in your suitcase before you leave.  My favorite budget saver is also borrowing costumes from other friends and or receiving used costumes, this is how we get most of ours.   Costumes also make great Christmas and Birthday gifts for the little ones in your life.

If you decide to forgo the costumes, which can sometimes be hot and itchy, you can always opt for Face Painting.  In the Walt Disney World parks and Downtown Disney you will find face painting stations.  For a fee children and adults can be transformed into an animal, a princess, or any number of customized designs.  The nicest feature of this experience is that if the make up were to smear or rub off you can simply return to a face painting station and have it touched up throughout the day and it does not have to be the same face painting station.

Be sure to have your camera ready or add Memory Maker to your Disney package so you can capture pictures of your dressed up little princess with the Disney Park Princess or your little pirate with Jack Sparrow!  A picture of your little one painted as a tiger in Animal Kingdom may become one of your favorite shots.  The cast members will make your little one feel like a real Princess or Pirate as they greet them in the parks.

You can continue the magic at home as well by reusing the costumes for playing dress up or for Halloween costumes.  Two years ago my oldest daughter dressed as The Little Mermaid, my younger daughter dressed as Sleeping Beauty, and I even participated in the Halloween fun, at the girls request I dressed up as Snow White.  Please note that if you are over the age of twelve you are not permitted to dress up in Disney, unless you are attending the Halloween Party.  There is a dress code for the theme parks, water parks, and restaurants.

Have you been to the Bippity Boppity Boutique or participated in the Pirates League?  Did your children enjoy the experience?  Tell us about you Face Painting Experience, would you do it again?  Let us know your thoughts, we love hearing from you and sharing your stories with other quests!
