Do You Need a Park Hopper at Disney?

Disney Park hopperDo you know what a Park Hopper Ticket is?  At Vacationkids we can help you decide if the Park Hopper option is right for you and your family and friends!

I am a big fan of the Park Hopper option and when I travel to Disney with my family we always add this option on to our Magic Your Way tickets.  Basically the Park Hopper option allows you to "HOP", as the name implies, from one park to the other for the length of your ticket.  The parks included in this option are Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World. It costs an additional $59 per ticket  This option DOES NOT include Disney's Water Parks, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon.  You can visit the water parks by adding the Water Parks Fun and More option to your Magic Your Way Tickets or by buying separate tickets at the gate of each water park. Guests visiting Disneyland can also park hop between Disneyland And Disney California Adventurew with prices starting from $45 additional per ticket.

Having the option to visit more than one park in a day allows for more flexibility.  You are not stuck in one park for the entire day.  Perhaps you enjoy the rides at Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios in the morning and prefer to walk through the countries in Epcot at night, with the Park Hopper option you can do this.  If you did not have the option then your day would end early at Animal Kingdom because this park closes earlier than the other parks.  With the option you could leave Animal Kingdom and head over to Magic Kingdom in the same day to watch the Electric Light Parade or Wishes Nighttime Spectacular in the evening while the animals are sleeping. A park hopper pass would allow your family an entire day of fun in Disneyland and still allow you to enjoy the World of Color that night in Disneyland.

Some guests will argue that the Park Hopper option is a waste of money because of the time it takes to get from one park to another.  It's easy to get between Magic Kingdom and Epcot because you can use the Monorail.  However, it does take time to get from those parks to the other parks because they are spread out over 30,080 acres of land.  Whether you travel by bus, boat, or car, you will have to factor in the time it takes to leave one park, possibly wait for your transportation, board your transportation, travel to another park, and then go through the check-in process of the new park. If you're visiting Disneyland, a park hopper makes perfect sense because it is a close stroll between both parks.

If this is your first visit to Walt Disney World there are a few things you should consider when deciding if the Park Hopper option is right for you and your family.  Number one, how many days will you be spending in the parks.  The more days you are there the more you may find you enjoy one park over another at certain times during the day.  If your time is limited, but you want to see parts of all four parks, it can be done in two days.  Number two, are you comfortable with Disney's transportation system.  I find the transportation system easy to navigate and if you feel lost it's easy to ask someone around you to point you in the right direction.  Number three, who are you traveling with.  If you have little ones with you and plan on returning to your hotel mid day for a nap, it's nice to be able to go to a different park for the second half of the day.

What are your thoughts on Walt Disney's Park Hopper option?  Will you try it out the next time you are in Disney or do you prefer to stick to one park per day?
