toddler at DisneyThe plans were made, the bags are packed, and you're leaving for Walt Disney World in the morning...are you really ready!?!

We put so much time and energy in to the planning of our vacations and expect to get the most bang for our buck, but inevitably a minor preventable event can turn our vacation in to a nightmare.  At Vacationkids we try to recognize those events ahead of time and prepare you and your family so that you are able to enjoy your Fairy Tale vacation.  While we can't prevent every situation there are some that we can help you avoid.

Safety

This is a HUGE concern for us.  You're in a new place, with thousands of people you don't know and you want to have fun!  Always start your day with a plan and include the kids.  "This morning we're going to Magic Kingdom and at 3:00 we'll take the monorail over to Epcot."  Go over your phone number with the kids, teach them to find a cast member if you get separated, take a picture of them before you enter the park so you remember what they are wearing, and put on Safetytats.  Make sure everyone is wearing comfortable clothing and comfortable shoes.  Give the kids a job, "When we're in Disney remind us to put sunscreen on everyone and keep everyone hydrated!"

Walking and Waiting

Your family is going to cover a lot of ground at Walt Disney World.  Be realistic, if you think your child would benefit from the use of a stroller, take one!  If you decide not to take the stroller, practice walking with your before your trip, this will help build up their endurance.  Talk to your child about waiting in line, because you are going to wait in lines, sometimes for an hour.  Prepare your child so that they understand why they are waiting and that they must not disturb the other people who are waiting to enjoy the ride as well.  (Don't stress if your child does start throwing a fit, I guarantee that you are not alone, it happens to all of us!)  Bring activities for your child while you wait.

Characters and Rides

Before you go to Disney visit local restaurants that feature character meals for kids, sometimes kids are scared by the enormous costumes, this will prepare them for the characters at Disney.  Let your children know that everyone wants to have a turn so they must wait patiently and when it is their turn they can see the character for a little bit until it is the next person's turn.  Also inform them that not all of the characters can talk and or sign autographs, example - Wreck it Ralph!  Pay attention to height requirements and only take your child on rides that you know they can handle.  If they want to try a ride, prepare them so they are not screaming for you to stop the ride.

Resorts, Transportation, and Food

Make sure your child knows where they are staying.  This is your home away from home, you want them to feel safe and enjoy the vacation.  Make them aware of pool safety even if you don't plan on swimming.  If you plan to use the buses, monorail, or boats and your child is not used to being in a moving vehicle without a seatbelt, you need to prepare them.  They must stay seated.  Disney is all about making you happy so by all means if your child has a food allergy, let the restaurants know, they will come up with something to fit your child's needs and avoid a trip to the ER.  Your child should be made aware of their food allergy, but not worry that they won't have anything to eat.
