Training For A Disney Vacation

A Disney World visit is a vacation like NO other. There is SO much to see, do and enjoy. You will want to take it ALL in...so you better be ready.

Most people are surprised to realize that the average Disney World guest walks an average of 10 to 14 miles every day they visit one of the 4 Walt Disney World Parks in Orlando.  Walt Disney World resort area encompasses almost 50 square miles. Disney does offer a phenomenal transportation system for guests that include buses, trains, monorails and even horses and carriages.  Still, from the moment you step out of your hotel room until your reach your first attraction, well, it's a LOT of steps.

An upcoming Disney Vacation is an excellent opportunity to get your family off their butts and start that fitness program you've been procrastinating about. Turn off the TV and video games and lace up those sneakers.  This is something the entire family can do together. Besides the dog will thank you too.

To really enjoy Disney World, every member of the family should be able to walk at a normal pace for about 4-5 miles comfortably. To do it properly, you should start and maintain a good training program about 6-8 weeks prior to your vacation. Training together as a family can become a fun and competitive activity for just about every member of the family.  Maybe you can even sign up for a local 5k benefit too. It's a great way to get out, get busy and meet others.

Training ahead of time will also help you break in any new shoes. Every one in the family will need comfortable, supportive shoes.  You want to make sure they fit well, are broken in and do not cause blisters.  Having a walking program before your trip will help to keep everyone comfortable and happy in the parks. This way you can just focus on having lots of fun.

You may be visiting the parks with little ones and struggling with whether your child will need a stroller. Family training ahead of time will give you a good indication how much walking your child will be able to tolerate. No matter what you decide, rental strollers are easily accessible if you decide you need one once you are there.

Setting a family fitness goal and having a plan to follow will help ensure that your family reaches their goals of getting in shape for your Disney vacation.  Having a good plan for touring the parks will also help ensure that your vacation is a total success. Although it's tempting to want to see and do everything, you will need a daily itinerary plan in order to get the most bang out of your vacation. Just like a fitness plan, you will need to set goals for your daily touring in the parks. Have your family select 3-4 "MUST SEE" attractions per park each day. At Vacationkids, our agents can help you set a daily touring plan that includes these specfic high priority attractions at optimal times of the day.  This will save you time, waiting around in line so that you'll be able to accomplish more with a lot less aimless walking.

Hopefully your new Disney vacation fitness regimen will become part of your family's every day life style in the days ahead.  Perhaps you'll enjoy it so much that you'll all want to train even more and continue your fitness challenge.  Did you know that Disney offers RunDisney. Marathons and running events in Walt Disney World and Disneyland at certain times during the year.  It's a great way to continue with your family's fitness goals and meet other like minded families who love Disney as much as your family.
