Disney Beyond Walt Disney WorldSo often when planning a Walt Disney World vacation for our families we'll suggest planning a day or more "away" from the parks. Many of our parents are some what confused by this suggestion.

So why do we make this crazy suggestion?

First, park visitors walk an average of 10 miles per day visiting the 4 Walt Disney World Parks. For as much fun as it it visiting the parks and all the attractions, it is also a real test of endurance. Creating an itinerary with breaks in the action can mean the difference between feeling like you just finished a marathon to actually experiencing an enjoyable vacation. For many families, this is important.

Secondly, we want to make sure that a Disney Vacation is affordable for everyone. Some families may not be able to afford to buy park passes for every single day of their vacation. Besides a money budget, we may also need to budget time in order to accommodate the wishes of everyone. A family vacation must be enjoyable for everyone in the family. Mom & Dad work hard and need to have some fun of their own too.  This may mean we'll need to budget some shopping, a round of golf for dad or a night out for them to enjoy a little romance together.

Last but not least, there is simply SO much to do. Yes people, Walt Disney World offers infinitely more choices of things to do than most people realize. So here is just a few ideas of things to do while vacationing in Walt Disney World...

The Pools - So many of the Walt Disney World resorts have amazing pools with incredible themes. It's a wonderful idea to make some time to actually be able to enjoy them. From the undersea world of Nemo, to a volcano to a Alice in Wonderland Splash park your kids will enjoy hours of wet and wild fun. Parents can take a dip or simply relax with a refreshing drink.

Disney Water Parks - If your family wants to stay cool but needs a bit more adrenalin then plan a visit to the Disney Water Parks. Disney's Blizzard Beach is themed after a ski resort with plenty of downhill thrills from bunny slopes to Black Diamonds.  Disney's Typhoon Lagoon offers one of the largest wave pools in Florida tweens and teens love it here.

Downtown Disney - This is a shopping and entertainment area like no other.  You can take a hot air balloon ride (tethered), see a movie, visit the biggest Disney store on the planet and even eat with dinosaurs. There is a lego store with some of the most incredible sculptures you've ever seen and even a bowling alley Disney style.

     - DisneyQuest - is an indoor interactive theme park located in Downtown Disney. Be warned as you may not be able to get your kids out of this place! DisneyQuest 5 floors of fun including virtual worlds, 3D encounters and classic video games.

     - La Nouba by Cirque Du Soleil - Offers an incredibly evening of entertainment for the entire family. High flying acts and acrobatic performances will leave your family inspired.

Championship Golf - Walt Disney World is rated one of the top golf resort areas in the country. It offers four 18 hole courses and one 9 hole course right on property. There is a course designed with unique features to meet the challenge of every level of golfer.

-Miniature Golf - For the less seasoned golfers in the family enjoye a round or two of miniature golf at either Disney's Fantasia Gardens or Disney's Winter Summerland miniature golf courses.

Health Clubs & Spas- Whether you're looking for an exhiliarating work out or a relaxing massage, Disney has dozens of choices to offer.

Marinas & Watersports - Rent a boat, take a guided fishing excursion or enjoy fun activities like parasailing, waterskiing or wakeboarding while at Disney World.

Kids Clubs - Offer supervised evening child care for parents looking to enjoy a romantic meals or a night on the town.

Chances are if your family has a favorite activity or something that you've always dreamed of trying, there is a very good chance you can do it while vacationing at Walt Disney World. So do you still think we're crazy for suggesting extra time away from the parks?....
