family vacationOnce upon a time there was an chef who had a real passion for his food. He learned the basics toiling in hot, hectic restaurant kitchens. He saved every penny he had so that he could go and study with the great chefs of France. He spent years mentoring with some of the finest chefs in the world. Years later he came home and put his name over the door of his very own restaurant. Word quickly spread about how incredible his food tasted. Soon there were lines of people outside his door and Michelin Stars attached to his name.

Every morning at dawn the chef would head to the local farmer's market to buy the freshest ingredients. He enjoyed being one of the crowd and shopping alongside his neighbors. One brisk morning he bumped into a familiar woman who was an avid patron at his restaurant. She was a bit surprised to see him buying the same exact produce and meat she was buying.

Then she asked him a very important question, "Chef, here we are, buying the exact same simple ingredients. So why is it that people will line up to eat your chicken dinner and my family will most likely complain that my chicken dinner is boring. What is your secret"?

The chef answered "experience".

Think about this scenario for a minute. Anyone these days can go online and purchase airline tickets, hotel rooms or buy a cruise. How can you elevate your family's vacation experience with these same simply ingredients?  The secret is to work with an experienced travel agent.

In many ways the path of a chef and a travel agent are very similar. We save and travel abroad so that we have a first hand taste of what life is like in other cultures around the world. We learn the rules to add enjoyment and prevent any harm from coming to our clients. We know how to add just the right amount of spice, that unexpected element of delight in just the right amount so that we don't over power the overall experience. We have a great passion for what we do and want others to enjoy the benefits of our talents.

Like the neighbor with the chicken dinner, you may be planning your vacation out of necessity. Everyone is hungry for a vacation and somebody has to do it.  Vacation planning becomes another chore. An experienced travel agent can add so much extra flavor to your experience. Chances are they can offer insights and ideas that you may not have considered which could add an incredible amount of enjoyment that your family will long remember.

Just like the chef who spent years perfecting his craft, experienced travel agents prepare and plan hundreds of unique itineraries for all different types of families. Agents may send hundreds of families to the same destination and yet never plan the same itinerary twice. A typical family may plan a vacation once or twice a year. A travel agent spends every day of his career perfecting this skill while learning about all the latest and greatest attractions before they are announced to the public.

Many people out there who may continue to complain but will be satisfied eating the same old chicken dinner every week. Chances are these folks will plan their own vacations, they will think they had the greatest vacation ever and will simply move on with life. They will be blissfully unaware of all that they are missing.

The problem here is that compared to 52 weeks of boring chicken dinners, most of us only have one week to experience a wonderful vacation. If we're looking to share the memories of family vacations with our kids, this means we may only have a dozen or so chances to get it right before their grown.

So if you're the type of person who hungers for the extrordinary, you can have your cake and eat it too...and it will be the best cake you have ever tasted.  The next time you are ready to plan a family vacation, enlist the services of a travel agent. Spice up your next family vacation and see how experience can change your perspective.
