Ever since the details were released about what is coming on Royal Caribbean's new ship Quantum of the Seas, there has been all sorts of buzz about this ships new features. All the advertising about Quantum of the Seas says "Prepare to be WOWED". The Quantum of the Seas will be sailing out of Bayonne, NJ (across the Hudson from NYC) starting in the fall of 2014.
This week Vacationkids staff attended a training seminar specifically about the details of this brand new ship. We found ourselves in a room full of travel agents. There was a room full of travel agents gasping and applauding at all the new features like sky diving on deck, the northstar observation pod or bumper cars and rollerskating in the new seaplex. Vacationkids staff found they were the only ones cheering when the single studio staterooms were announced. We don't care. Several of us were single parents at one time or another and we think this is one of the most AMAZING new features Quantum of the Seas has to offer.
Let us explain what this news means for Single Parent families...
Royal Caribbean's Quantum of the Seas will offer 12 new Studio Staterooms with balconies and 16 studio Interior staterooms designed for single travelers. These studio staterooms are about 1/3 smaller than similar category staterooms but there is NO single supplements for these rooms. These rooms will allow one adult who will pay one adult fare.
BUT...the exciting news here....
The King beds in these Studio staterooms CAN be separated into two twins bed. Royal Caribbean will allow ONE additional passenger who will be charged a lower child's rate or 3rd passenger fare!!!
Bottom line one adult and one child are allowed to share this studio stateroom without having to pay any single supplements!
Please note, out of the 2.090 cabins on board the Quantum of the Seas, there are only 12 Studio Staterooms with balconies and 16 studio interior cabins....a total of 28 studio cabins. That's it! So Single parents interested in this deal will need to plan their cruise vacation in advance and book far in advance to avoid disappointment. Royal Caribbean will be adding another new ship, the Anthem of the Seas in 2015. Hopefully if these single studio cabins are popular, we'll have more of them to offer Single parents on the Anthem of the Seas.
The interior studio cabins supposedly offer a "virtual balcony". Because interior cabins do not have any windows, flat screens have been installed offering a virtual live view from a deck webcam. This way guests can see what the weather is outside or what their visiting port is like.
These studios will work perfectly for single parents vacationing with one child. Sorry but if you have two or more kids, regular cabins on Quantum of the Seas require double adult fares. This would mean one of your kids would end up paying a 2nd or adult fare before discounts would apply to your other children.
Specific prices and itineraries have yet to be announced. Royal Caribbean is scheduled to open bookings for Quantum of the Seas in Late May/Early June 2013 for sailings starting in the Fall of 2014 until Spring 2015. Vacationkids has started a Pre-booking list for single parents who are interested in this single parent deal. This way, as soon as cabins go on sail we can get pricing and help you plan a wonderful cruise vacation.
Guests are allowed to sail on board Quantum of the Seas with a Photo Driver's license and original birth certificate with a raised seal. Vacationkids does HIGHLY recommend that all passengers sail with a valid US passport. This will help you to avoid any hassles or questions throughout your journey. If you are a single parent, you may need legal assistance or the cooperation of a co-parent to obtain a passport for your child and permission to sail.
It's true, there are so many wonderful new features and innovations coming with the Quantum of the Seas. There is a great balance of fun activities for kids and adult only options as well as opportunities to enjoy quality vacation time together. Still our favorite feature is the opportunity for Single moms or Dads to enjoy a fun filled cruise with their child....one that they will both remember for a lifetime.
