Family World Travel Perhaps you have a family world travel dream that starts off something like -  "Wouldn't It Be Nice, IF..."

-We had all the money in the world

-We could just pack up the kids and travel around the world

-We could live like nomads and simply go where life leads us

-We could meet interesting people all over the planet

This is about the time you wake up in your car with a loosing lottery ticket in your hand.

Yes, there are those families out there who spend their life simply traveling around the world with their kids. You hear their stories in the news and read their blogs online. We envy their freedom and experiences. We live vicariously thru them.

For most of us, we have jobs, obligations and responsibilities that keep us tethered in place.  We do not have the funds nor the time to take years off to simply go on some family world travel adventure. We simply forget about our dreams and go back to our tethered lives.

Day dreaming about travel and lottery tickets usually won't get us anywhere. Family world travel is a matter of prioritizing and planning.

If there is one lesson that we can learn from these family travel nomads is that they have made travel the absolute, number one priority for their family. It is a way of life for them. For the rest of us "normal folk", traveling the world with our family does not need to be an all or nothing proposition...but we do need to make is a priority.

Perhaps your biggest dream is to take your kids to Disney World?  Maybe it's taking your parents on a cruise? You may want to get a passport and travel to a foreign country?...What ever your family world travel dream is, you need to start somewhere. You need to make it a priority in order for it to happen. Here are a few ways to get your journey started...

  1. Create a Family World Travel notebook or file where you can clip bits of inspiration and keep planning information...a journal to outline your journey to get to your ultimate destination. Writing your dream down will make it more real.
  2. Keep your Family World Travel Journal in a visible spot in your home
  3. Research travel options for your dream destination and update your journal
  4. Learn when it is the most affordable and best time to visit
  5. Find the cost of your family of your trip.
  6. Set up a vacation saving account or lay away payment plan for your trip
  7. Take the first steps like buying a guidebook or applying for passports
  8. When the time is right, speak to a travel agent who can help you make the most of your trip

It may take time, saving and planning to get this dream to come to fruition but you CAN make it happen.  Make it a project that rallies the family together.  It may mean everyone must making immediate sacrifices in order to reach your long term goal. It might mean less frivolous spending for the kids or even a part time job for mom or dad.  Rewards are even more appreciated when they are earned.

Once you've have acheived your first family world travel goal with your family, your sense of accomplishment will teach you that other family travel destinations are obtainable. Your family will begin to set their sights on even bigger adventures farther afield. Before you know it, your family will be world travelers with plenty of stamps in their passports.  After a while, it will be your family who has the reputation of being the "world travelers" and is the envy of the neighborhood.
