The Catalonia Riviera Maya resort is a 524 room family all inclusive resort situated in the delightful upscale resort community of Puerto Aventuras in Mexico's Riviera Maya. It is located about a 1.5 hour ride from Cancun airport. This four star property offers families great value for their vacation dollar. It is an excellent choice for family reunions because there is so much to see and do here you'll make everyone happy. From the resort it's a short five minute walk to center of Puerto Aventuras where families will find plenty of shops, food and drink spots to explore situated around the town's center lagoon. This resort even offers complimentary bikes so that you can enjoy a ride around the area. This is where families can enjoy the Swim with the Dolphins discovery adventure. You can pay for this once in a lifetime experience or sit and watch all the fun. If you're a golfer you'll enjoy the nine hole Puerto Aventuras Golf Club featuring a 3,255 yard course designed by Tomas Dehmann(fee). The Catalonia has a perfect location for sightseeing in the Riviera Maya. You're 20 minutes south of Playa Del Carmen and can easily catch a shuttle ride there. You're also less than a half an hour ride from the Mayan Ruins in Tulum and the ecoparks of Xelha and Xcaret. Vacationkids own Sally Black and Sue Frantz have heard great things about this resort so they recently headed south of the border to check it out.

The Catalonia Riviera Maya Resort is the perfect spot for families that love the water. If you'll notice from the arial photo at the top of the page, the resort sits on a protect ocean inlet set beside it's own lagoon area shown on the right edge of this photo. Sue says the white sand beach has your choice of sun or a number of shady palapa's and palm trees. There are gentle waves here thanks to the reef that protects the inlet of the bay making it a great spot for little swimmers.

Sally enjoyed the lagoon with it's impressive natural rock bridge separating this area from the main beach.
You'll need a pair of aqua shoes or a good pair of sneakers to navigate this area but it is well worth the effort. Sally said you could simply look down into the waters and see tons of tropical fish swimming by.
She said it was the best spot to enjoy the perfect sunsets over the water. The lagoon at the Catalonia is also the perfect spot snorkeling, kayaking, sailing, windsurfing or just enjoying all the marine life. Free scuba diving classes are held by the pool but for dive excursions (fee) for either beginners or PADI certified divers, one of the best dive shops in the area can be found right on this beach. Full details about all the available programs can be found at the Pro Dive Mexico website.

If you'll look very closely to the our pool picture on the right here you'll see a feature that parents will enjoy...the children's area has a see thru plexiglass barrier keeping kids safe and making it easy for parents to keep an eye on them.
