Akumal Beach Resort is a budget all inclusive property. Rates start at around $650 USD PER adult for a seven night land only stay (airfare extra). Not a place where you need to spend big bucks for an all inclusive family vacation
Not a big resort - only 160 rooms

not a place with butler service or a swank spa

not a place where you'll find lots of different restaurant choices
not a place that has tons of organized activities
not a place for travel snobs or vacation divas

We're NOT trying to keep families from visiting the Akumal Beach resort. Sally and Suzie just want to be clear on guest expectations when planning a stay at Akumal Beach Resort. One the countrary, the girls both agree that this property is really a hidden gem. This is the kind of cozy, little all inclusive hotel where you'll be greeted with a warm smile. It's basic...nothing fancy...but ot IS the kind of place that some families dream about...The kind of warm, friendly little resort that families return to year after year...an oasis where you can kick back and relax.

This resort is located about 1 hour and 15 minutes south of Cancun airport between Playa Del Carmen and Tulum. It's where parents and kids go when they want to spend hours together playing on the beach and splashing in the waves. Akumal Beach Resort is truly a one of a kind of place where memories are made.

Akumal Beach Resort boasts one of the most beautiful and exotic beaches in all of the Riviera Maya. The Resort sits on over a mile stretch of white sand powdery beachfront. The blue waters are crystal clear and offer great swimming. Seriously, this is the kind of beach folks see in Corona Beer commercials.

With the all inclusive program here, guests enjoy all meals and snacks, all drinks and non motorized water sports which includes snorkeling. Guests can grab their snorkel gear, head just a few yards off shore and visit some of the most famous residents of Akumal Beach...the sea turtles. They pretty much inhabit the waters around the resort year round. If you visit late summer or during the fall you'll probably notice many turtle nests roped off along the beach to protect the eggs. If you're lucky enough to be there on a full moon night, you may meet some new baby sea turtles too.

The word Akumalmeans the place of the turtles. Akumal Beach is the year round home of many giant sea turtles. They reside on the world class reef that lies just off shore of Akumal Beach Resort. Guests of the resort can swim out and visit these gentle giants and enjoy views of a beautiful live coral reef either by snorkeling or kayak.

In addition, there is a nice pool and jacuzzi area where guests and kick back and relax in view of the ocean.

Just about every room at the Akumal beach resort overlooks the pool and the ocean beyond. The guest room buildings are all 3 story walk ups with no elevators. Standard rooms are lower floors that feature a garden or partial ocean view. Superior rooms are located on higher floors and offer better ocean views.

All rooms at Akumal Beach Resort are pretty much the same. Two kids under the age of 12 are allowed to share the room with their parents. All are comfortably appointed with either one king bed or two double beds, a private balcony or terrace, air conditioning and ceiling fan, Private bathroom with shower (no bathtub), hair dryer, cable tv, telephone and safe. There is a charge here for mini bar and coffee makers are on request and subject to availability. These rooms here are clean and comfortable but certainly not luxurious or fancy. Cribs are available upon request.

There is a small children's area and playground over on the older side of the resort. It was closed during our visit. The kids club here is available for kids ages 4-12. It is open from 9:30am to noon. It reopens from 3:30pm to 5pm and there is a supervised kids dinner from 7-8:30pm in the main dining room. To be honest, even the resort manager told Sally and Suzie that most kids end up spending more time with their parents playing on the beach than they do in the kids club. Once again, this is the kind of resort where kids and parents spend time together.

As part of their all inclusive program, Akumal Beach Resort offers 3 restaurants...one main buffet, an evening International Restaurant that alternates Mexican and Italian menus and a beach front snack bar. None of the restuarants are air conditioned but all offer relaxed casual dining and water views without the worry of specific dress codes.

So once again, Akumal Beach is not a fancy, schmancy all inclusive property. It's not the kind of resort that offers nightly entertainment with Michael Jackson impersonators or trapeze acts. Its the kind of place where you gaze at the stars, enjoy the tropical breezes and listen to the soothing sounds of the ocean. It's a family-friendly, budget-friendly all inclusive sea side hotel where you and the kids can kick back and enjoy the simply pleasures that Mexico offers. Akumal Beach is, as they say....I'na Yana Kin...My home under the sun!
