THE RENAISSANCE JAMAICA GRANDE WAS TAKEN OVER AND COMPLETELY REMODELED. IT WILL BE RE-OPENING SPRING 2005 UNDER THE NEW NAME OF SUNSET JAMAICA GRAND OCHO RIOS. VACATIONKIDS HAS HEARD THAT BESIDES A MAJOR FACELIFT THE RESORT WILL BE KEEPING MOST OF IT'S KIDS CLUB FEATURES AND HAS ADDED AN EXCITING NEW WATERPARK. AT THE MOMENT, WE ARE WAITING TO GET UPDATED PHOTOS AND VERIFY ALL THE NEW PROGRAMS AND FEATURES AT THIS PROPERTY...SO STAY TUNED! The Renaissance Jamaica Grande sits on its own little peninsula right in the heart of Ocho Rios. The resort boasts a 1,300 foot white sandy subtropical beach and bright blue waters. You can sit in the delightful open air lobby of the Jamaica Grande, sip a cool rum punch and watch the cruise ships dock in the bay. The Jamaica Grande is located about 1 and 1/2 hour drive from Montego Bay airport. Please note construction has begun to improve the main highway in this area so there may be traffic delays. No worries...this resort is certainly worth the travel time. Vacationkids own Sally Black and Jan McAuley recently visited and they were feeling "Eire, Mon!" That's Jamaican for pretty wonderful!

This means THREE kids can share an existing room with their parents. Even better yet Jamaica Grand considers kids to be age 15 and under. Now families can stay close and save money sharing the same room with their kids and teens. Rooms offer a king bed or two double beds. Rollaway cots and cribs are available on request.All rooms offer telephones with dataports, hair dryers, personal safe, remote cable TV, air conditioning, iron and ironing boards and in-room coffee makers to help you get a jump start on your day. Families can choose to upgrade to ocean view or ocean front rooms for an additional fee.

Activities at the Renaissance Jamaica Grande are endless. Your family can spend the day in the surf and sun. There are three pools including the fantasy pool built to resemble nearby Dunn's River Falls. This is a two story, man made version that connects the main lobby with the beach area below. Here you'll find rope bridges and a swim up bar with numerous waterfalls and jacuzzis built right into the scenery. Just a few steps beyond you'll find the inviting blue waters of the beach. Scuba diving, snorkeling, waterskiing, deep sea fishing, jet skiing and windsurfing are all available through the resort's own Jamaica Grande Water sports center. Non motorized water sports are included as part of the all inclusive plan. Other water activities are available at an additional cost. If you prefer, there are also two lit championship tennis courts and a state-of-the-art fitness center free for your use. You may decide to splurge and spend a bit extra for an aromatherapy massage or reflexology treatment. Perhaps instead your family will decide to take a short walk and discover some of the great duty free shopping in the colorful straw market of the town of Ocho Rios. If all this wasn't enough to please, the Renaissance Jamaica Grande is located just minutes away from championship golf courses, horseback riding trails, Dunn's River Falls, bike tours through the Blue Mountains or rafting down the Martha Brae River. All of these additional tours can be arranged for your family's pleasure. The resort offers evening entertainment and there is even a small casino with slot machines.

One of the best features of the Renaissance Jamaica Grande is
Club Mongoose. Club Mongoose is offers age appropriate activities for kids ages 2-12 years old. Different daily activities are scheduled for ages 2-4, 5-8 and 9-12. The program is designed to keep kids stimulated as well as entertained with everything from picnics and nature walks to reggae dance classes, clowning and arts and crafts. One of the more innovative features of Club Mongoose is the cultural exchange program where little guests make friends with local Jamaican kids with the hope of them becoming pen pals. There is a secure playground with fun playthings like a full size volkswagen beetle and a 4 seater cessna plane and a genuine bamboo houseboat for imaginary playtime. There's a kids pool, water squirter, theatrical stage and a soft ice cream and juice bar just for little ones. Club Mongoose is open from 10am to 6pm daily and is a complimentary part of the all inclusive plan. Besides all the fun, lunch and dinner are included with kid friendly menus and the club is supervised at all times with well trained staff with a maximum of eight children per adult.
